Wine Education Class Registration is open!

by capitalcellars on September 21, 2011

Wine Education Classes begin again on Monday October 3, 2011 on Monday nights for 8 consecutive weeks from 6-7:15 pm. They end the week of Thanksgiving. These classes are taught with support from Frankfort/Franklin County Community Education and are taught at Capital Cellars.  This is a terrific way to learn about wine regions, wine styles, winemaking and the wine industry, and for all levels of wine educating- there is a lot to learn, we always have lots of repeat participants because we keep the topics new and exciting.  This is a fun class to take with a family member or friend!   Please call 502-875-8400 X167 or email Gina.Hagan@franklin.kyschools.us .   The cost is $75, a flat rate even though you might not make it to each class.  Many wines are tasted at each class, which are often taught by guest speakers in the wine industry. The cost also includes a beautiful Riedel crystal wine glass to keep and use in each class.  Our snow policy (we have to have one just in case!) If either Franklin County Schools or Franklin County Independent schools are closed, then our classes will be cancelled.

Always Wanted to MAKE Your Own Wine?

by capitalcellars on July 6, 2011

 What our wine class includes:

All equipment and instruction!   You will end up keeping all of the equipment used to make your very own batch of wine and approximately 30 bottles of wine.  This includes: fermenter, carboy, at least two instruction books (“Winemakers Recipe Handbook” and “The Way to Make Wine” NEW PUBLICATION  $ 21.99 at Poor Richards Books), Cleaner, Double lever corker, Corks, Plastic spoon, Triple scale hydrometer, Econolock, Drilled Rubber Stopper, 5 ft Siphon Tubing, Fermtech Auto Siphon, Ferrari Automatic Bottle Filler, Bottle Brush, Bottles, Tastings at specific classes of OTHER wines including homemade wines.  You will learn how to make wine on your own, and you’ll have the basic equipment and knowlege to get you going.

 The Schedule:

Cost: $250 for one person and equipment/juice/wine for one batch= approx 30 bottles of wine
and $100 per each additional person as part of a group
Payment is due the night of the first class.

For example, the cost for two people would be $250 + $100 = $350 (or $175 each) and the cost for a group of three people would be $250 + $100 + $100= $450 (or $150 each) and the cost for a group of 4 people would be $250 + $300 = $550 (or $137.50 each).  So, the more people you have in your group the less cost involved, but of course then you have to SHARE your wine!
